Privacy & terms
In plain words, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody. This describes what the software actually does — it was written from the code, not from a template.
helloim.ai is made and operated by vDesktop, LLC. Throughout this page, "we" and "us" mean vDesktop, LLC.
helloim.ai is in beta and it is free. It is early software. Things will break, and some of them will break in ways we did not think of. If that is not a trade you want to make, this is the moment to say no.
What helloim.ai actually is
It is an interface. helloim.ai does not contain an AI model. It is a window on your computer that runs on the AI brain you connect — your own Claude, OpenAI or Gemini account, or a local model already on your machine — and shows you what it is doing.
That matters for everything below. When the assistant writes a file, sends a message or answers a question, the thinking was done by a model we do not make, on an account that is yours — or, with a local model, on your own machine with nothing leaving it — and the action happened with the permission you gave it.
What we collect
If you join the waitlist
- Your email address, and your name if you typed one.
- The time you signed up, the country our host reports, the page you came from, and your browser's user-agent string.
- Your IP address, recorded with that signup.
If you create an account
- Email, display name, country and date of birth.
- Whether you accepted the terms, and whether you asked for product email.
- A password that is never stored. We keep a PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA-512 derivation of it — 100,000 iterations, a random per-user salt — which cannot be turned back into your password.
This website
No analytics, no tracking, no cookies. There is no third-party script on this site at all. Nothing follows you here and nothing follows you away.
What we do not collect
- Your files. They never leave your machine. helloim.ai opens the folder you point it at, on your disk.
- What you ask it. Your prompts go from your computer to the AI brain you connected — such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter — under your own account, or to nowhere but this machine when that brain is a local model. They do not come to us and we could not read them if we wanted to.
- Your keys and passwords. Anything you paste into a connector is stored by Windows in its own Credential Manager, on your machine. It is never written into a file we create and never sent to us.
- What it remembers. Its memory is plain text in your own folder. Open it, edit it, delete it. It is not uploaded anywhere.
The one thing the app sends us is a sign-in check, so we know your account is real. That is the whole of it.
Where your data actually goes
Because helloim.ai is an interface, other people's terms apply to the parts they handle, and you should read them:
- The AI brain you connect — such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter, or any other endpoint you point it at — receives your prompts and does the thinking, under your own account and their policies. Some, OpenRouter among them, are themselves intermediaries that pass your prompt on to a further model you choose. Choose a local model instead and the thinking happens on your own machine, with none of this leaving it.
- Any service you connect — your Slack, your Notion, your GitHub — receives whatever the assistant asks it for, under your own login and their policies. We are not in the middle of that and we do not hold your logins.
What we are not responsible for
We do not control what the AI does. The model can be wrong, can misunderstand you, and can take an action you did not intend. It can delete something, send something, or write something incorrect. You are responsible for what you let it do, and for checking work before you rely on it.
- What you let it do is yours. Safe agency stays off until you switch it on, and even then it asks before every action and waits for you to approve that exact step — nothing runs on its own. When you approve a step, the consequences of that step are yours.
- Credentials on your computer are yours to guard. We cannot protect a password, key or token stored on a machine somebody else can reach, and we are not responsible for what happens if they do.
- Other people's services are theirs. If a connected service is down, changes, deletes your data or charges you, that is between you and them.
- Your AI bill is yours. The thinking runs on your own account with whichever brain you connect — such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter — and that bill is between you and them. We do not meter it, cap it or pay it. With a local model there is no such bill at all.
- We do not back anything up. There is no copy of your work on our servers, which is the point — and it also means there is nothing for us to restore. Keep your own backups.
Best effort, said plainly
We build this carefully and we test it. We do not promise it is free of faults, that it will always be available, or that it will suit any particular purpose. It is provided as it is, without warranty, and to the fullest extent the law allows we are not liable for loss arising from using it — including lost work, lost data, lost time or lost money.
Where a law where you live gives you rights that cannot be signed away, this does not try to take them.
Your data, and getting rid of it
- Leave the waitlist or delete your account: write to hello@markdalton.com and we will remove what we hold.
- Everything on your own machine — the memory, the folder, the credentials — is removed by uninstalling and deleting the folder. Nothing of yours needs our permission to disappear.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising. There is no advertising.
Changes
If this changes materially we will say so on this page and date it. The date at the top is the last time it changed.
This is not legal advice and was not written by a lawyer. It is an honest description of what the software does, written from the code itself. If your organisation needs a formal agreement with vDesktop, LLC, ask and we will have one drawn up properly.
